Seattle Women's Holistic Healing Retreat

September 17-20, 2015 - Whidbey Island, Washington

The Return to Zero Seattle Women's Holistic Healing Retreat will be hosted at Aldermarsh retreat center on beautiful Whidbey Island for 4 days / 3 nights from September 17-20, 2015. Located near Seattle, Washington, Whidbey Island is only reachable by ferry, and the retreat center is surrounded by 11 acres of lush wetlands, beautifully maintained pathways, and gardens teeming with wildlife.

This retreat will take you on a journey to find joy and meaning after loss. Attendees of previous retreats have been transformed by attending a RTZ Holistic Healing Retreat. Please read our Testimonials page to hear from those who have experienced healing on a previous retreat. You are also welcome to read our Vision statement to get a better idea of what these retreats are all about. We do hope that you will join us on this very special island retreat.

Aldermarsh retreat center is located on Whidbey Island, only a short ferry ride from Seattle, WA.  It is surrounded by 11 acres of lush wetlands, beautifully maintained pathways, and gardens teeming with wildlife. Whidbey is a blend of low pastoral hills, evergreen and oak forests, meadows of wildflowers, sandy beaches, and dramatic bluffs.

Aldermarsh is a place that has evolved from being present to one’s self, while listening to the land. The retreats that come to Aldermarsh remain in the expression and co-evolution of this environment. Groups who come here create an energy that continues to feed a community for the future.

Aldermarsh is the perfect serene, supportive place for our journey through our grief to finding healing after loss.

Dr. Kiley Krekorian Hanish is a bereaved mother and occupational therapist living in Los Angeles.  She is interested in the transformative aspects of grief, specifically how storytelling, meaningful activities, experiences, and the environment contribute to healing.

Kiley and her husband Sean are creators of the film Return to Zero starring Minnie Driver and Paul Adelstein. It is based on their personal experience of their son Norbert, who was stillborn, and is the first movie to tackle the taboo subject of stillbirth.

Dr. Ivy Margulies is a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles specializing in maternal mental health, including stillbirth, miscarriage, infertility, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and newborn loss.  You can read more about Ivy at her website Angels Born Still.

Ivy brings mindfulness, ritual, and sacredness to the retreat, allowing us to deepen our connection to ourselves, our babies, and others in the group.

Carly Marie Dudley is a mother, artist, writer, and public speaker from Perth, Western Australia. After the stillbirth of her son, Christian in 2007, Carly founded Project Heal and has inspired people all over the world to heal and live a new wholehearted life after loss through practicing mindfulness and self-care. Since 2008, Carly has created multiple international days for bereaved parents including Bereaved Mother’s Day and Bereaved Father’s Day.

Catherine Keating lives in Seattle, WA with her family. She will be teaching the yoga workshops at the retreat, as she is a certified yoga instructor as well as an early childhood and special education teacher.  She began writing stories at a young age, always knowing she had a story to tell the world.  When she lost her first two babies, she discovered what that story was to be --  a story of finding joy again after loss.  Catherine's first book There Was Supposed To Be a Baby: A Guide to Healing After Pregnancy Loss was published in 2012.

Guests have use of the outdoor Japanese soaking tubs and the Kiva (cordwood sweat lodge).

All of your meals will be prepared by a local farm-to-table caterer, who uses high quality, local and organic ingredients to offer an array of delicious and nutritious options at every meal. At this retreat, people may go through a certain depth of processing, and our goal is to provide food and caring service that is supportive of this.

We try our best to cater for special needs and dietary requirements, making sure every retreat participant is cared for so they can relax and enjoy the retreat without any food apprehensions.

You should plan to arrive on the late morning/early afternoon of Thursday, September 17, and depart in the afternoon/evening on Sunday, September 20.

If you are flying to attend the retreat, plan to fly into the Seattle Airport. You will not need a car while at the retreat (unless you would like one), and we will help arrange a van so that a group can travel from the airport and take the same ferry to Whidbey Island together. Once you sign up for the retreat, you will be given more detailed start and ending times in order to book your flights.

Alumni of RTZ Retreats receive $100 discount.
